Seattle Skyline

Skylines are one of the best indulgences found in the modern world. Beautiful even by day, at night and on sunsets it becomes more exquisitely so -that even the most world-weary traveler will still find time to have some cup of coffee by the terrace.

Skylines are prized panoramic views for hotels and high rise condos. So much that those offering wide panoramic skylines are charged heftier with those that face ordinary views. Hotel institutions know this; that's why they tend to capitalize on this by staid room planning; often those expansive floor-to-ceiling panoramic glass windows are common feature.

There are known skylines all over the world, but the most famous of them can be counted only on one hand. New York, Chicago and Hong Kong are mainstays. But as cities grew and skyscrapers being built by the dozens, now there have been differences of opinion on which skyline should have the title: The Best Skyline in the World.

Seattle Skyline is a clear nominee with several skyscrapers under its expanse including the tourist attraction Space Needle, and the tallest skyscraper in the region at 937 feet which is The Bank of America Tower. It may not have the sort of wondrous charm exhibited over at Manhattan and Minneapolis but the Seattle skyline is still beautiful in every bit way. What I love about Matt Jones and his photography is his initiative to pull up several pictures of the Seattle Skyline. Now those that haven't been to Seattle can see and compare. Especially lovely is the 'Seattle Skyline' which I think should be renamed to 'Seattle Downtown'. While taken from the Space Needle, you'd wonder what else sights that Matt Jones didn't show us up there.

This site features several intimate photos of the Space Needle (now it is included!). Too bad the pictures here aren't public domain or it would have been a free download (and also without that annoying copyright logo). But if anything else, Brad Perks photos are among the best pictures of the Seattle Skylines taken.

Many regarded skylines as the city's extravagance. And it couldn't be more appropriate; skylines are the de facto badge or representation of the city's overall power, successes and influence. For those pulling up the waterfront on a Bainbridge Ferry, looking up the meeting skyline should tell them this.
